Discover Why Your Teenagers Looks Are So Important

Girls seem to spend years just growing their hair - until they can sit on it.

Then they want to get it styled this way and that and bit by bit the length is cut. Boys now seem to want to go to the Barber or Stylist much younger than previously.

Most will have a tidy cut but there are some who want to get into sculpted styles, gel ups or held together with all kinds of products and maybe the odd bit of highlighting or dyeing thrown in for impact.
Why do we say you must support them in their desires for a good hair style? Because it is so important to them to not stand out in the crowd for having a sad hair cut or style.

Far better that their hair is admired and approved of by peers.

During teenage years, friends are key.

Friends are much more important to a teenager than you can imagine. Add the fact that they are forging ahead discovering who they are, what they will become in life and all kinds of profound discoveries are being experienced by your teenager that is no longer a child.

They believe that their friends understand them more than relatives do during this time and identity is a fundamental need for them.
Boys will happily go to a Barber and it will be their mates' heads that influence their decision regarding what the barber is ordered to do.
Girls will take suggestions and all feedback regarding a style from staff at a Salon but the moment a parent dares to utter their approval or disapproval of a proposed style, all hell could break out! Parents would do well to bear in mind that hair needs regular cutting (trimming) to prevent splitting, frizz and breakage so a trip to the Salon is never a waste of time or money.
So, to recap.
At this age their basic needs are Friendships and Identity, after food, shelter etc.

Approval from their peers is critical to them.
Even on modest budget some things can be provided.
Negotiate with your teen regarding the budget available at the Salon, they will make do.

Think of it this way, the Salon trip is only once every 4-5 weeks so it could be more debilitating on the wallet if a day out at a Theme Park was requested. To refuse your teen when it comes to their hairstyle might send out an unspoken message of 'you're not worth it' which is something a parent must never do to their child.
